I have a riding Snapper mower, model 281016BE and the power disc keeps dropping down and scraping against the chain guard housing. It scores the power disk and make a squealing noise, especially in reverse gear.

I removed the motor and correctly repositioned the power disc on the shaft and tightened the two set screws, but the disc continues to drop down and hit the chain guard and makes it hard to shift. Why won't the set screws hold the disc in place?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Benrichjr

Are you certain you are getting the set screws tight enough?

Thank you Mowerman...

I put them as tight as I could get them using the proper set screw wrench (Allen wrench) using a pipe "cheater."

I removed the motor and noticed one of the set screws was split and I tried to remove it to no avail, so I have another problem now. I was able to get one of the set screws out but the other split one is now rounded with no way to get it out except drilling or using an easy-out maybe. I tried drilling but the bit didn't even penetrate at all.

I guess I'll just have to take it to the shop AGAIN.

Thank you for responding to my inquiry.
