I have heard it is better to eat more meals, but smaller meals through the day to keep your metabolism going. By reducing the portions, we intake less bad stuff i.e. calories and fat, but by increasing the time between meals we allow our both our metabolisms to keep going, and its easier to burn less food more often, then more food less often.

Well, first for losing weight, I would say to eat in moderation 3 times a day, WITH exercise. This is also applicable with the task of maintaining weight.

Diet and Exercise goes together.

People with good emotional intelligence is typically healthier also, to find more on EI, search on Google Scholar.

To steal wondergirls reply (and she can repeat it if she checks this post)

The famous nutritionist, Adele Davis, said, "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper."

I say eat a good healthy breakfast

Eat a healthy mid morning/lunch time snack

Lunch

Mid day healthy snack

Dinner

Eat high fiber, good fats, fresh home cooked meals.
Eat fresh fruits, berries and vegetables,
Avoid junk food, fast food and prepackaged foods with preservatives

I think that eating smaller portions is the key, like only 3 oz. of protein, fruit and some veggies, whole grains, and low fat dairy. But I think people who are tying to lose weight should eat every 4-5 hours, Your metabolism increases every time you eat. And it gives you the energy you need along with the nutrients you body must have. Along with exercise and natural foods, not processed, fatty or fried, you should lose weight and be able to keep it off, when you make these changes permanent. You need to cut down on sugars, sodium and fats. And drink lots of water instead of soda or presweetened drinks.
