My husband and I have separated for several months now. I just found out that he is considering filing for bankruptcy. My question, what do I need to know or do so that his creditors can not come after me since some of the debts were created during our staying together even though the debts were all in his name only. Will I be protected under legal separation? We don't want to have to file for separation or divorce if we don't have to... too much hassle. Another reason why I am concerned is because I plan to buy a house in the future and I also want to know what I need to do to protect my future asset. Please share if you have come across similar experience or advice. THANKS in advance.

Welcome to AMHD. His debts are his, and yours are yours; any joint debts that he discharges in bankruptcy will be yours, alone, unless a family/divorce court orders him to pay. You may want to get a credit report and review your record; if you are getting along well with him, maybe he will share his with you, and you can help him get organized in the event his does file bankruptcy.
