You have a transmission issue. The light should not be flashing on and off.

You can try to have the filter & fluid serviced but it will probably require more than that to remedy the problem.

Check the O/D button over driving, does it make any change? Maybe it's an electronic problem or related to the button,

Have a diagnostic test done to see if any transmission fault codes have been set. The same scan tool that does that can usually read transmission data. Monitoring the data while duplicating your shift problem could pinpoint the fault exactly.

No, if the "Overdrive Off" is on that is to alert you that you will not have overdrive available. If that light is coming on without you selecting it to be on that is usually an indicator that something isn't functioning properly and needs addressed.
