Hello Legal Experts,

My boyfriend of one month wants to add me to the title of his parent's house. He inherited this house after his father's death and is a surviving relative along with his sister, who he is estranged from due to her misused of power of attorney during their father's illness. I was wondering are there any legal ramifications, of adding me to the title? Would I then be legally responsible for paying the taxes? What else could I be legally responsible for?

The home, which is situated in Melbourne Beach on Florida's East coast, is paid for and holds no mortgage. While I think this is a noble gesture, I have only dated him for one month and am leery of this “free gift”. His purpose for putting me on the title is so that I “have a home” if something happens to him. Thank you for your help.

Signed, Looking a "gift horse" in the mouth

Assuming the home is in probate... he can not put you on title. If home is not in probate... any guy who wants to give you 1/2 of the value of his home after only dating a month... well... run run run... fast!!
