I have a model number 66901691 Kenmore electric dryer. I have owned it for about 6 years. It will not turn on. The repair min. fee from Sears is $60. It is better to let them come out - or buy new? What could the problem be and what might the cost be? Any help is appreciated.

Could be simple - - could be messy. Can't tell from your description. Does dryer run when you hold "start" button in and quit when you let go? Does dryer motor not run at all? Sounds simplistic but have you checked to see if breaker is blown (if it is there's probably a reason)? Over temp sensor might be involved if the dryer is 6 year old and has accumulated lint. Sure, it's recommended to buy instead of spend $ on repairs for a 6 year old unit but if you're a little bit handy or know someone who is, a new switch or motor or sensor is not an impossible task and cheaper than a new dryer. Don't jump directly to Sears for parts. I was able to get a Potter and Brumfield relay for the starter switch (exact factory replacement part) on my wife's Kenmore dryer direct from a company called Jameco Electronics for ~25% of the Sears price (and they shipped faster).
