I am totally befuddled

For weeks been unable to get washer to drain------ordered a new pump ( which I've about concluded now I didn't need likely) and couldn't get it to drain with the hose in the drain pipe in the wall at about machine level.

Someone suggested I get the drain hose at floor level and NOW ITS DRAINING-----I can't TELL IF ITS VIA THE PUMP OR JUST NORMAL GRAVITY /SIPHON ACTION-----i guess it doesn't even matter as long as its draining BUT I can't USE IT AT FLOOR LEVEL--MY DRAIN PIPE OBVIOUSLY IS AT HIGHER LEVEL

What is going on here-----------what am I to do----------certainly this should drain at the higher level if it's the pump that's forcing it rather than just gravity/siphon action------------HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP PLEASE

Yabadaba:

Did you install the new pump and it still will not drain?

When you set the drain on floor and drained the washing machine... if under influence of pump.. YOU WOULD KNOW IT!

Did you cycle the machine to drain cycle while testing? I hate to ask more questions, but need MORE INFO.! ;) Get back to us with information/answers.. ok? Talk soon.. MARK

Mark--

Thanks for your input and attempt to help-------you and so many other nice technicians from appliance forums have been trying for a month and I appreciate everyone's efforts
I know you are a plumber and not necessarily a appliance repairman so I'm pooling everyone's thoughts

The washer will wash, spin and NOT drain normally---i had to conclude by elimination it was prob the pump though I honestly don't know how it could have gone bad---machine was in storage for years and worked at time was stored. So might have bought a pump I didn't need----it was after the purchase than the drain hose came into quiestion

I put the new pump in-------the wigwag seems to be working and I see the pump level pull and open.

Just other day an appliance man asked me if it would drain with hose on ground---------yes it is doing so-----in answer to your question, its draining with g00d flow with the machine off via gravity/siphon action but when I turn machine on it does seem to come through with more more but maybe not as noticeable more than I may have thought. Still I must conclude there is pump action going on

If that is the case the delema is why when the hose low but none at all when the hose is at 34" as the owneres manual suggests ( to avoid unintended siphon action)

I appreciate any thoughts you may have---thanks
