Hello,

I have a chance to buy a Craftsman II G4000 riding lawnmower with a 12.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. It's about 7 years old and has been used only 2 times. It seems like a good deal, but when I put gas in, it immediately started to pour out of the bottom of the carb bowl (I think). What do you think I need to do? Rebuild it? I'd like to avoid having to replace it with a new one, as it costs about $125.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Guy

If its coming out of the bowl I would replace the bowl gasket. Even if the float or needle valve is stuck the gas would go into the cylinder. Take the bowl off and actuate the float to see if the gas starts and stops dripping when you raise/lower the flaot. Install a new gasket before putting the bowl back on.

Remove the carb and you may be able to clean it enough to get it running, the only real issue is your abilities and if there is rust in the carb components.
