I have a maxtor one touch filled w/ data for work. I had to reimage the machine, and now the drive is causing the machine to slow down drasticaly. I can see it in device manager, but not disk management, or explorer. I need this drive up asap. I have reinstalled the software. I have tried everything I can think of. If the drive can't be saved is there any way to back up my data. I can't take it anywhere for data recovery, because of my location.

PLEASE HELP

My wife saw the dramatic slowdown with the one touch also. I don't think the reimaging is involved. What we discovered is that the software that supports the one touch started some services that drained the lifeblood from her system. Turning them off, the speed came back to normal.

I don't know if you tried this or not, but I would un-install the Maxtor software and then just plug the one touch into a USB port. Windows (XP, hopefully) should recognize the drive as a standard USB disk drive and you can copy your files any way you choose.

Just a guess, but I wanted to pass it along.

Try this:
My Computer -> Tools menu -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box

Thanks to you both I will try and see if it will work.

I tried all of the suggestions I could find. Thanks to everyone for the help.

It turns out that the drive has crapped out. I talked to my head IT guy, he said that he has had this problem before with the same equipment.
