My chihuahua dislocated his knee last night and now he won't eat... we took him to the er vet they gave him a shot and he was fine all night... this morning he ate 2 pieces of cheese to take his meds and this afternoon he wouldn't eat his food so I gave him a little bit of chili... now he is not eating or drinking at all... however he does keep trying to jump around and ends up hurting his knee again... what should I do

Did the vet give any sort of painkillers for you to give him? If he's in pain, it may make him not want to eat. And I assume that he's not supposed to be running around and jumping, etc.

Yes they gave him tramadol and rimadyl he is starting to eat a little but not much... he doesn't seem to be in too much pain seeing as every time I let him out of his play pen to eat or use the bathroom he is trying to jump on my bed and run around

Trust me.. I feel for you! I am tasked with keeping my greyhound calm and caged for 6 weeks! They really don't understand why they can't run around and jump, do they?

One this that has worked with my Chihuahuas; Cook rice and tukey or chicken (broth will work) Cook with lots of juice and boil till rice is nice and soft. I mix that with some quality canned food, or even just cooked ground turkey. They love to eat something that smells like real food. It usually gets them to eat, at least a little. But the rice and broth combination is very good for them. Works with upset stomachs too.

Poor baby though, getting hurt like that. I have two Chis. A 7 months male and a 2 year old female. The female is a registered medical alert service dog for me. She is only 3 lbs 11 oz. possibly one of the smallest service dogs in the US. (see photo) So I know how us owners like to fuss over our babies.
