Hi all,

Just wondering if there's anyone online who feels like sharing a story about anything good that's happened to them recently. Anything at all - funny, cute or just plain nice. What good things are happening in the world at the moment?

Is there anything good that has happened recently to you, Kal?

I quit smoking.

My daughter made governors honer roll so far all this year.
My son, who takes speech class, is improving greatly.

It is spring time where I live and all the trees and flowers have bloomed,
Birds chirping, grass turning nice and green, and the weather is pretty.

All of which are a few good things happening in my life right now.:D

My little boy is starting to copy every little thing mama and papa does. It is so funny and cute because you do not realise that he is picking up on so many things until he tries to mimic you.

My wife and my boy is what is happening. It is amazing.

I've been accepted into the college I wanted to go to. I FINALLY have an A in calculus. I've finally proved to myself and everyone around me that I CAN do what I set my mind to and stick to it. I've found out that I actually might get paid this summer for volunteering. Life couldn't be better.

I read on line where someone was asking to hear a good story from happy people.

That was pretty nice by itself as it got me to thinking about the good things that come my way, and are often overlooked.

Here are the first 10 things that popped into my mind... all happened within the last week.

1. Time spent with my son. Always makes me very happy!
2. I had an interview that seems to have gone well.
3. I have been accepted into some graduate courses after waiting a year to find out.
4. I didn't have to worry about my checking account bouncing this week.
5. My electric didn't go out although thousands of homes in the area did.
6. My tax return cost me 75 less than the prepairer's estimate.
7. I got a couple of compliments on a recent hair cut.
8. I didn't get a parking ticket when I thought I would for sure.
9. I made pancakes for an elderly lady, and she liked them more than her own cooking.
10. I took some time out to think about the good things. Will do more often!

My little boy is starting to copy every little thing mama and papa does. It is so funny and cute because you do not realise that he is picking up on so many things until he trys to mimic you.

My wife and my boy is what is happening. It is amazing.

It's beautiful watching kids grow, and being with family.
I remember my sister (she's 10 years my junior) would pick up on all the subtleties of speech and action from everyone around her when she was little. She would mimic things we hadn't even realised we were doing.
Thank you.

That's fantastic. Good for you. :)

And Cookie Monster... wow. That's beautiful.

That's just great. I especially like the sentiment of number 10. Though 9 is also quite sweet in that your happiness was brought on by giving pleasure to someone else.
It's a good list, with variety and optimism. Your life sounds like a good one.

My turn.
My bonsai seedlings have just sprouted.
My cousin is about to have a baby.
I've just been offered a good job with hours that fit conveniently around my uni timetable.
I'm able to ride my bike again for the first time in over a month!
Two good friends of mine have told each other that they're in love.
My friend's parents have decided to get married after being together for 30 years - they have 3 grownup children.

Sometimes it's easy to be distracted by troubles in life. It's good to be reminded of the beauty and potential in the world.
Any more stories are welcome.

I wanted to say that this is a great thread. When I read this and all the answers I realized that lately I've been focusing on all the things that are going wrong in my life and I've been ignoring the things that are wonderful. Here's my list.

1. My 9 year old son is finally starting to read (he's been in speech therapy since he was 3 years old) this is a major accomplishment and I'm so very proud of him.
2. My 5 year old daughter told me that she either wants to be an artist when she grows up or rescue animals. When I asked her why, she said it was because she wants to be like me.
3. I talked my husband into rescuing a 4th rabbit from the pound. We're going to get her on Easter as a surprise for the kids, she's 7 years old.
4. My 13 year old black lab has gotten back some of his spunk, I'm enjoying every day I have with him and no longer worrying over the fact that he's getting older and might not be with us much longer.
5. I love my husband more today than the day that I married him, we'll be married 13 years this May and I think it's our lucky number.
6. I'm finally starting to get over this flu that I've had for over 2 weeks.
7. I had a long talk with a good friend and I've decided to stop worrying about the MRI I had a few weeks ago. If it's bad news I'll deal with it when it comes, for now I'm going to be optimistic that everything will be okay.
8. The snow is starting to melt and it was 10 degrees celsius today.
9. I lost 3 pounds this week.(that might have something to do with the flu though:p )
10. I'm happy with my life and with the people that are in it. It doesn't get much better than this and it was right in front of me the whole time.

In general, I've been on this earth 37 years and I feel great about everything I've done so far. I love my family and they love me. I have wonderful friends, both in person and on this site and I know that they will always be there for me. I take each day one day at a time and know that there is always tomorrow if something doesn't get done today. Life is great and I'm living it.

BigCityDreams,
Congratulations! I hope everything about the wedding is as beautiful as your love for one another.

Altenweg,
I love the way you can be optimistic and see promise in so many things around you. I'm envious of the smile you must have on your face so often. I'm sure it lights up the people around you every day.

I'm also overwhelmed by how much people focus on family. It's good to see everyone having their priorities in order.

Another for my list is my family. My parents are decent people, my brothers are good fun, my baby sister is beautiful in every way (not that I'm remotely biased :P), and I have a close extended family. We all look out for each other. :)

Hopefully they will both be a success.

Kal- Thank you for your kind words. I'm known as the silly one, the person that makes others laugh, usually while describing things that happen on a daily basis to me and the kids. Apparently my home life is quite amusing to others. I'm not afraid to tell funny or even embarrassing stories about myself, I love laughter, I was raised with it and by the most wonderful parents in the world (I might also be a bit biased). My friends call me the Erma Bombeck of 2008 (you're probably too young to know who that is, don't tell me that though, otherwise I'll feel old)

Akatrue- My kids birthday's are 10 days apart, apparently I enjoy being very pregnant in the summer and having an infant in the fall. I don't recommend being 9 months pregnant and 80 pounds overweight in 30 degree celsius heat, one tends to get a bit cranky, and husbands make arrangements to run away. Happy birthday to both of your kids, and good luck with the party plans.

And follow my signatures advice, Smile it makes people wonder what you're thinking.

Altenweg,
I'm a little more worried about the second part of your signature. :P Sounds painful! Remind me to thank my mother the next time I see her!

I love it when people can make light of their lives and laugh at themselves. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

KalFour
Mar 9, 2008, 09:50 PM
... Everyone else.
:P

Alty
Mar 9, 2008, 09:56 PM
Believe me I do laugh at everyone else, as well as myself. Although I do have to say that sometimes I feel the irresistible urge to tell people exactly how silly they are and why I'm laughing. I do get allot of laughs on this site, some people are just to funny.

As for the birth part, make sure you buy your mom a huge bouquet the next time you see her. I had both my kids naturally, no drugs, nothing, let's just say that it didn't tickle, and I make sure that they know it. Guilt works, although I will admit that I tend to exaggerate to them about how bad it really was. If you tell them I'll deny everything.:p

KalFour
Mar 9, 2008, 10:03 PM
Hahaha.
Yeah... I watched my sister being born when I was 10 years old. Watching my mum was... really stressful. But apart from that, it's my most important memory.

I'll buy her chocolates, she'll prefer those.

Still, giving birth obviously wasn't bad enough to stop you from doing it a second time!

Alty
Mar 9, 2008, 10:11 PM
Giving birth is strange. Once you've done it you know how much it hurts, and boy does it hurt, you swear that once that baby is out you'll never let your husband near you again. You would like to rip the doctors throat out if he says one more time "We're almost their Mrs. Altenweg" and ten more minutes go by with nothing. But somehow, as soon as your holding that baby in your arms you forget all that and decide right then and there that you will have another. The mind is an amazing thing, it lets us forget.

Having said that, get an epidural when you have your first child, I hear they're really great.:p And never let a day pass that they don't realize the gigantic sacrifice it was to give birth, then one day you'll get your own box of chocolates. :p Great, now I'm craving chocolate.:(

I like this! I've been in such a 'mood' lately, and I guess sometimes you really do have to think of all the small things! After all, if you bunch them all up into one big ball, and roll them down a hill, they might hit someone who ticked you off that day, lol

Okay, I'm going to try the list... here goes!

1. The skunks left my dog alone lastnite, phhhewww!
2. It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday and it melted all the ice on my sidewalk,so I
Don't slip and fall again.
3. The Chinese restaurant returned my money for the bad food, hehe
4. When I was sick, my best friend of 25yrs called to ask if she could do errands for me
5. I got a very nice compliment on my new hairstyle from a total stranger at the store
6. I finally got to meet my new niece who's already a yr and a half
7. My neighbor fixed my gate
8. I heard from an old friend who now has a wife and new baby
9. My mom called from Florida to ask what she can bring me back home, yeay presents!
10. My dog finally learned what "wink at me" means and does it now. So cute!

All good stuff :)

Congrats KalFour, I'm a bunny pro, have 3 myself and getting another in a week or so.

What kind of bunny do you have? Male or female? How old?

If you want any advice let me know. Bunnies are very different pets to have, they can become a problem if not handled right, and if they are not altered (spayed or neutered)especially once they hit 6 months of age. That is why so many of them are relinquished to the pound. I am so glad that a nice person like you has opened your home and your heart to a bunny, if you know what you are doing, they are fantastic pets.

P.S. My avatar is my youngest bunny, his name is Cotton.

Hi there. I live in Australia and I am just happy to be in a wonderful loving relationship, great home, wonderful pets. This is truly positive for me and the loving caring friends I have at the moment to support me through job change. Oh it's finally raining again in Melbourne.. muchly needed ! Hope this helps.. :)

Alt,
He's a gorgeous mini-lop, he's smoky black. Soo cute! I probably won't get him neutered, but I'll bear that in mind if he starts getting moody later on. My parrots are terrified of him. :D
Cotton is extremely cute by the way. Have you known many people to take bunnies for walks? Is it worthwhile buying a bunny leash or will I just look extremely eccentric trying to walk him?

HistorianChick,
Holy c--p! That's an incredible loss! Kudos to you. You should definitely get a sexy bathing suit and grow strutting your stuff. :)

I've also lost a lot of weight recently... unfortunately it's because I've been ill, but it'll probably be a plus in the long run... as long as all those Easter eggs haven't made me put it all back on. :D

Chris,
Good for you! I love Melbourne, it'd be a great place to live. And your friends and family sound great. The people we love really are the most amazing thing in our lives.

I just had a fantastic evening with friends, and met a whole lot of new people. We sat at a café and even though the entire group was communicating in Sign Language, we managed to be louder than every other group there! It was a good night. Hope everyone out there has something new to smile about.

Well this is just something that made me laugh lastnite, and is still keeping a smile on my face this morning. I let my dog outside lastnite for a little while to play. She is a blondish color. Well when I let her in, she had this long black stripe all the way down the middle of her head. I have no idea what it is, or how it got there, but it looks sooo funny. Maybe she got tagged by a neighborhood doggie gang? lol Or maybe it's her way of trying to fake out the skunks that keep on trying to get her. LOL

Hey Kal, sorry I didn't respond to your post earlier, for some reason it didn't show up under my profile, hmmm, wonder why?

It's a good idea to get all rabbit altered, especially females because the majority will die of ovarian cancer my the age of 3 if they aren't spayed. Male rabbits become aggressive, will spray and be generally unpleasant, they also have a shorter life span if they aren't neutered. It isn't cheap, but it's worth it to have a happier and healthier bunny. I did get a fourth, finally, her name is Kilala and she is a little over a year old, looks allot like Cotton but she has blue eyes. She was rescued from the SPCA and was one of 203 rabbits rescued from the same home. She's settling in nicely and bonus, she has already been spayed.

Have fun with your lop, they are a great breed, very gentle and very easy to tame. As for walking a bunny, hee, hee, more like the bunny walking you, they don't really follow you even if you have them on a leash. It's great if you want to take him outside and don't have a bunny run.

Good luck with your new bunny, PM me if you have any questions, I'm a bit of a bunny expert. :)

I can tell you that at one time in my life I opened death's door, yet I did not go through. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32... that was 12 years ago.

To make a long story short, I was a -A cup (LOL), so wanted bigger breasts (got 'em), went through chemo, but I needed a new haircut (perms and haircolor do such bad things to your hair)... did not have to shave my legs for 6 months, AND don't get "high beams" when I go through the freezer section of the supermarket!! :D :D
