I have had trouble lately finding good books to read. I wondered if anyone could recommend books they like. Lately I have enjoyed books with kind of depressing plots, with angst, attempted suicide and distraught friends, but I like happy endings. But I don't like to restrict myself to one genre, I'm open to all kinds of books. I'd love to hear any suggestions people have!

Oooooh... there are so many!
Um... here are a few off the top of my head. I'm sure you've read at least some of these if you're an avid reader.
Catch 22 - a heavy yet deeply amusing perspective of war
To Kill a Mockingbird - some very series socio-political issues from the point of view of a young girl. One of the most profound books I ever read.
A Separate Peace - very depressing, all about high school angst, and close friendship being built on jealousies.
Catcher in the Rye - If you haven't read this, you should
None of those are recent books, but they're all classics.
Here are some more recent ones.
Checkers - teen drama set in a psychiatric care facility
The books in the 'His Dark Materials' series.
George Martin's 'A song of Ice and Fire' series
Tenderness - Very angsty, so from the sound of things you'll like it.
Eat Well and Stay out of Jail - the name says it all really.

I've always enjoyed Mitchner and Uris. They both write historical novels and I find them educational and entertaining. I've also gone to the classics when at a loss for a good read. Tale of Two Cities by ens is one of the most beautifully written books, in my opinion. Also Prince of Tides is a great read... Pat Conroy writes beautifully. Spiritually my latest is "We're all doing Time" and it's a good one if you're into eastern philosophy practices.
Good luck... let me know if you stumble on something great! I'm always looking too.

Have you read "Swan Song" by Robert McCammon? It's my all time favorite and it's got a bit of everything in it. It will make you laugh, cry, think, and scream. It's truly a marvelous book.

Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer! It's a series, and it's romantic and suspensful. ^_^
