View Full Version : Bathtub stem broken, leaking issue.

I live in a mobile home and we've been having problems with our bath tub faucet since we moved in. Originally it started as a tiny little leak and grew to a gallon a minute type of leak, full force, no holding back. We turned our water off and replaced the stems in them because we figured that was the problem. The knobs that we bought and put on, didn't touch the wall, maybe we tightened the stem too much? The leak ceased and it worked great for about 3 days until last night my room mate took a shower and the hot water stem just started spraying and leaking, then the tub faucet started leaking and it's going full force again. We turned the water off and this assembled the fixture and tried taking the stem out, it turns but it won't come out. What can we do? Is the stem what's causing our problem?

I'm in desperate need of help, it feels like I'm living in the 19th century, I'm about read to boil water and take a bath in the sink.

Did you rebuild the old stem or completely replace it with a new one?

How do you rebuild a stem? The stem is a piece that goes in the faucet that controls water flow, at least that's what we call them here. I think my roommate just tightened it too much so we're trying again, we returned the busted stem and got another. I'll post back with outcomes.

Sorry for the double post, consider it a bump:
I replaced the stems and it still leaks full force, we also pulled the back wall off to get to the fixture and whatnot. It leaks a little back there on the hot water tube, but when we turn the water on, it goes full force out the front.

I don't think I can help much without a picture or maybe a link to the brand of stem you bought. Stems are rebuildible by replacing the rubber washers, O rings and the seat in the valve body.
