I am trying to remove the faucet from my bathtub. The knob that you pull up so that the water comes out of the shower head broke. I have tried to unscrew the faucet and it won't come off it just turns and turns. HELP, PLEASE.

Some of them unscrew off counter-clockwise and some of them are held on by Allen

Wrench set screws up in those slots. (Both kinds can have those slots.)

Try to unscrew it first. You don't have to turn any water off to replace it.

Get a replacement one-size-fits-all tub spout-with-diverter. It should have everything

That you need to install it. Wrap the teflon tape flat clockwise only around the male

Threads of the fitting on the end of the pipe from the wall, and screw the tub spout on.

You may be able to do it by hand, or you may need to put a cloth over the spout to keep

From marring it, and use a pipe wrench to snug it up.

Please give us more details. What's the brand name of your valve? One handle or two or three knobs? How old? This knob you pull up to divert the shower. Is it in the valve or on the spout? Tell us more! Tom
