Getting ready to replace the split system in my home (current system is 23 year old York with traditional resistance heating in an all electric home) Have no direct experience with heat pumps and wanted to know if they are truly superior (in cost to operate and long term maintenance) to traditional resistance heating. I've talked to some that swear by them and others that say efficiency is affected by geography (i.e. outside humidity, severity of winter termperatures, etc.). I live in east Texas which has fairly high humidity but winter termperatures rarely drop below upper 20s) Heat pumps run more but wanted to know the TRUE cost of ownership (which is based on potential monthly electric savings and potential maintenance issues). Also, any thoughts on York vs Trane? My current York has had no real problems for 23 years but don't know if I was just lucky.

Your area of Texas is perfect for heat pump use. It will save you a good amount on your utility bill.
