I am attempting a flush mounted install of a 52" Hampton Bay "Belmont Baroque" ceiling fan, but am stimied by the absence of paper instructions from HB. As it is now, the fan is screwed tight into a fixed placement...housing to piece that covers the electrical box. I do have an extension rod with that half-ball, metal swivel piece. However, I do not have the ceiling height required for a 16" extension rod it is currently screwed to. Can you help me out with this challenge?
ThX,
Michael

You can buy a shorter pipe or cut down the one you have. Cut off excess on the none threaed end and drill a new hole crosswise in the end of the pipe.

So, currently the fan is flush mounted, and you want to mount it to a downrod shorter than the one included? Am I understanding correctly?
If so, ballender is correct, you need a shorter downrod. It should have included one. That and the missing instructions makes me think you got an open box item.
