Please don't take this the wrong way, I don't want to sound money concerned.

My father passed away, I paid for the majority of his funeral expences, is there any deductions for paying for a funeral. I have never heard of it, but just wondering.

Can't advise you in terms of the taxes Fr Chuck.

However, why not just take the cost of the funeral out of his estate?

I know all of the people in Canada are rich and have estates. Most elderly in america live on about 500 or 600 dollars a month social security retirement after they retire at 62 or 65. So by the time they reach the great age of 86 normally their estate contains tupperware containers, some potted plants and a draw full of bills that you send a death certificate to and tell them they are not getting paid.

Not meaning this wrong, just the majority of the elderly here in the US live ( in my guess) below the proverty level. If their children did not help them, most could hardly afford to eat.

I did not realzie that.

My grandmother isn't rich by any means, but she does have a small estate.

I guess the difference is the health care costs b/w our 2 countries.

No comment on the non-tax issues.

As for the deductions for the funeral, sorry, there are none!
