We have our son in a day care two days a week while my wife works. Well we always though it was a daycare. It is done by a church and we pay them about 90 dollars a month for this

I have asked them for a tax id number but they have refused. They state they are not a day care. They said that they are just a "mothers day out" .
Well we take them to a church into a educational department in the basement and pay them so my wife can work.

Thus meeting what I believe is day care under IRS rules. But they will not give us any ID number to use for filing.

What should I do.

Fr Chuck:

You can report their name and address on Form 2441, then enter the words "tax exempt" where the Tax ID number goes. Since they are a church, they are in fact tax exempt. That way, the IRS will not look for the money on someone's tax return (that's why they want the tax ID number in the first place) and you can still claim the $1,080 child care credit.

Thanks, they just make me so mad. Our family is that working middle class, we make OK, but not rich by any means.
