 I have a cat and last week, a stray cat came to our house and is trying to take over her territory. She fights my cat and takes her food. She won't leave the house and a few days ago, I noticed that my cat's eye is red and swollen. She can hardly keep it open.:( :( She doesn't have crust around it, so I don't think its herpes. A few websites I have visited have said to make a salt and water solution and put it in her eye. But she might not take that too well. What can I do to get rid of the stray cat and help my cat's eye?

Get a live trap. Put some food in it, and trap the stray, then take the stray to the humane society. As for your cat's eye, an infection in the eye, as this sounds like, is hard to clear at home. Take it to the vet for antibiotic eye drops.

That's a good point about taking the stray to the shelter. I do think taking your kitty to the vet is a good idea. They'll probably give you some eye drops for her. Has your cat been vaccinated against the feline leukemia virus? Not that that would have anything to do with her eye, but I was just wondering since there is a sick stray around. If not, get her and any other cats that have been around this stray tested.

I hope she's OK! My cat went nuts when I had to give him eye drops. It helped to put on leather work gloves and gently wrap him up in a towel and have someone else put the drops in while I held him.

Depending on the infection and the cause the vet will give you different medications. So this is important cause you don't want to do the wrong thing. It may take antibotics, or steroid drops... depending. If you don't have much money call around find the cheapest and the best thing about vets is most will let you pay it out if you don't have the money. But you must ask in advance.

I agree with the others take your cat to the vet, home treatment may be the wrong thing and cause her eye to worsen or possibly loose it.
The stray can be caught ny animal control or a cat rescue in your area may be willing to lend you a cage, or even try to rescue it themselves. The poor thing is probably only seeking food and shelter.
