I am new on this board so I'll try to make this simple.

Just replaced a toilet and now, of course, the shutoff valve leaks. :eek: I decided to replace the valve with a new one since the old valve has been on for quite a few years.

The water supply line from the wall is galvanized threaded pipe (old house). The pipe is in good condition, no damage. I installed the new shut off valve using teflon tape. Now the new valve leaks at the pipe/valve connection.

What did I do wrong? I have tightened and untightened but to no avail. It still leaks at the connection to the supply line.

Am I missing something? :confused:

I don't think that you are missing anything, its just wanting to ruin you day. How many wraps of tape did you put on the pipe? I like at least 4. Frankly for I prefer plain old pipe joint compound or TPE for questionable connections. Tape should be wrapped in the same direction that the fitting screws on to prevent bunching up of the tape when screwing on the fitting.

I wrapped the pipe 3 times in the same direction as the screw. I'll try rewrapping it and adding a couple more times around the pipe for good measure (or a better seal:) ).
