As I was watchingTV this morning I noticed that it was getting hotter and hotter in the house. I looked at the thermostat and it was not calling for heat, but it was still blowing very hot air. I turned the thermostat to the off position and it would not turn off. I tried cycling it through the AC hoping that it would work, which it did after about 15 minutes. After that I set the thermostat to off and about 10 minutes later the heat was blowing with the thermostat off. Once again it was already in the off position so I am completely confused. I have a Totalline electronic thermostat. I just pulled the unit from its base on the wall and that finally shut it off. I have the same thermostat upstairs and it is working just fine. This is the seond time in a week this has happened (it also occurred last Sunday, but has been fine since then until now). I really need some help. I am hoping to fix this problem myself to save some money.

If pulling the unit off the wall shut off the heat, the problem is in the thermostat, not the heating system. I am afraid you are going to have pick through the manual for it and see if they give a fix. If you don't have a manual. You might find one online at their website.

Tracked the manual down online. Absolutely no help. Does not have a troubleshooting index. Any more ideas. Should I just replace it?

Might try new batteries if it has any. Some people have reported success that way. That will do 2 things. It may supply essential power. It may also reset the unit, fixing the problem.

I have done what I can, and nobody else seems to have a better idea.
