Do I need copper pipes in my house to install a tankless hot water heater?

Hi Joel... NO... you do not NEED copper pipes to install a tankless hot water heater in your house. YOU do , however need to install copper pipes/or brass nipples and fittings to transition from the tankless heater to whatever type pipe you do have in your house.

Anytime you have an appliance/device that gets heated to extremes it needs to have solid copper pipe or similar for I SAY at least 24 inches away from the unit before transitioning over to PEX pipe or CPVC pipe... or any of the other types of plumbing pipes.

What type pipe/fittings do you have in your house? What are you using for hot water now?

MASS is correct. Also when you install a tankless heater you need to create disconnects so the unit can be isolated for repair and/or removal. Make you transitions at the disconnects
