Hi!

I'm looking for some more kong recipes to keep Trink happy while she is cooped up for the next three weeks. For now I've been stuffing the kongs with kibble, and a closing the opening with a little canned food. I did peanut butter for a while, but got a tip from my trainer: mix it with plain unsweetened applesauce, and it freezes beautifully while being a lot lower in calories. I put applesauce in a tupperware container, heat up some peanut butter in the microwave to make it runnier, and mix it together. Stuff the kong, throw it in the freezer overnight, and put the leftover peanutbutter flavored applesauce in the fridge, covered.

Anyone else have favorites that they are willing to share?

My Lab is really sensitive to lots of food so for a while I made my own dog food and treats... I also went a little crazy with pastries...

Recipe
3 cups all-purpose flour
5 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup milk
1 1/2 Cup (or more) cooked Meat scraps***

In bowl combine dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and meat). In another bowl combine the egg, milk, and butter. Then slowly combine dry and wet ingredients, mix mix mix. If you've ever made scones, it should be the same consistency. If it's a little watery add more flour.

Then you can eaither cook the dough into bread like chunks or put it right into the kong...

***If you go to the grocery store in the deli or meat deppartment and ask if they have any beef, chicken or turkey scraps they can ussually give them to you for free! The best time to do this is after you buy fresh cut steak, or anything ale fresh cut. OR! Get some ground beef (my fav.) ***If you go to the grocery store in the deli or meat deppartment and ask if they have any beef, chicken or turkey scraps they can ussually give them to you for free! Ooo! Another good one for stuffing

If you have an old loaf of bread, rip it up into little chunks then mix it with a chicken bouillon cube or packet and some yoghurt it should be kind of like a glue type sticky substance you can put intide the Kong.

Another cool trick- when the kong gets dirty put it in your dish washer and it should clean it up!
