Hello all, new to the site, but looks interesting.

I am building a home and recently received an estimate for a Goodman GKS9 furnace and a Goodman 13 seer A/C unit. I have read other posts regarding reliability, and they generally seemed OK, but noted issues with hot surface ignitor.

Any new thoughts on these models, or Goodman in general?
Thanks for info.

Goodman is just as good as any other brand they are just on the lower priced end of the spectrum. Yep hot surface ignition especially the ignitors can be a problem but that is a problem with all brands that use it.

Stay away from variable speed furnace blowers. These units cost a small fortune to repair if the blower goes out and the energy savings is very marginal.

If I were putting a furnace in my home I would not object to the use of Goodman products. They do not offer a lot of bells and whistles but the bells and whistles can be trouble.

Get a FACTORY extended warranty for piece of mind. Do not get the warranty some installers/salesman offer. If there company goes out of business so does the warranty. Make sure the extended warranty is a Goodman approved one that will give you the right to call other repair companies instead of just the one you purchased the equipment from.

Thanks for the input. I believe the unit I was quoted on has a 2 speed blower.

I especially liked the take on the factory warranty.

You are a gentleman and a scholar.:D
