I had a non-system disk installed on my computer, NTFS formatted, ~75 GB. I had to disconnect it, and then when I reconnected it, it was not recognized. After fiddling around with the computer management console, it finally recognized it, but through my efforts, I seem to have corrupted something, boot sector, or partition table, or something, because now it is inaccessible. If I click on it, it wants me to format it.

Using various software on the web, I have basically ascertained that it is now comprised of an unknown partition of 74.5 GB, and an unallocated partition of 2.49 MB. I tried PC File Inspector File Recovery, and it couldn't find anything... said there was a bad boot sector, that's all.

Any advice on how to repair this problem, without paying?

I wouldn't bother repairing. You can get a new drive for much less than the cost of repair.

I think perhaps I forgot to mention that I need valuable data on it... that's what I meant by repair.

You expect to repair something that far gone for free? There are some data recovery tools out there, but the most you will get for free is something that will tell you there is stuff to recover, then you p[ay for the full version. Do a search on data recovery tools.
