Ever since I started my period in the 6th grade, it has always been regular... I have NEVER been late and I ALWAYS know when I should start on the next month. I am 27 and this is the first time it has ever been late. I was supposed to start around the 14th of this month (I started my last period on the 14th of January). Today is the 27th and I have not started yet, nor am I having any indication that I am. No cramps like usual.. etc. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and they both said NEG. I can always tell when I am ovulating because I get lower abdominal pains that rotate from the left to the right side, from month to month, but usually it's on the right side. Last month, after my period, I DID NOT notice any ovulation pain. Well, for the past two days, I've been having my normal ovulation pains in my lower right abdominal area, as if I am ovulating, on time, just like I had my period almost 2 weeks ago, except that I didn't. (Hope I'm not confusing anybody! )... I know it's normal for a woman to miss a period now and then... do you think that is what's happened? That I just missed my period, for some reason? I'm not under very much stress at all at the moment... there has been other occasions when stress was a lot higher. If I did miss my period, would I still be ovulating? May there be a possibility that I am pregnant? Should I make an appt. with the DR. Should I be worried? This has never happened, so I don't know what to think... any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If you're sexually active, you may be pregnant, get a blood test for sure. Generally, ovulation is not indicated by pains, but perhaps the onset of menstruation or aches from hormone changes, but if you are not getting a positive HPT and no period, definitely visit a doctor for a blood test to determine pregnancy or not. If you do not turn out to be pregnant, then you will want to ask your doctor to investigate as to why your period has not come yet, it may be a hormone imbalance, maybe something else, it's hard to say... and even the most regular-cycled (so to speak) women can have an off month sometimes.

Thank you Charlotte. Maybe I got a break this month with my period! LOL! Scheduling a DR's appt. is def. in my future plans. Pregnancy would also be great. My husband and I have been trying for a long time and we've yet to become parents. So, I guess we'll see.

As far as the ovulation, my GYN says it is normal for slight pain in your lower right or left abdomen, that varies from month to month, during ovulation, depending on which ovary released the egg. I'm just going by what she's told me. It has been occurring since I started menstruating. It doesn't happen every month, but probably every other month. If ovulation is occurring at the moment, I just thought it to be weird that I was ovulating when I haven't even had my period for this month yet. IDK... but thanks for the reply. I'll keep you posted as to what is going on.

One thing I've learned, is to never underestimate my body. Even if you have been regular since you first started menstruating, it doesn't mean you will always be. There are so many things that could be factoring into this irregularity that you are experiencing. Sickness, stress, medication, change in diet/exercise/lifestyle, pregnancy, just plain unexplained irregularity. Its not uncommon to occasionally be late, or even completely miss a cycle now and then. Its possible you didn't ovulate this time, it happens. Some women are so intuned with their bodies they know when they ovulate, and with which ovary they are ovulating with that month. You sound like you are one such lady. Anytime you are sexually active, its possible to get pregnant(whether protection is used or not). Its possible that you are pregnant, and your hcg levels simply aren't high enough to register on a hpt. I suggest yougo to your local hospital and get a qualatative blood test done. These cost about as much as a hpt(typically $10) and they are more accurate then hpts. However, they are not without a margin of error. They only give negative or positive read outs, so if your levels still aren't high enough, they won't register and you may get a false negative and still be pregnant. If its negative, wait for your next period. If it doesn't come, test again. If still negative, its time to see your doctor.

Thanks for your reply buggage. Today, the pains in my lower right abdomen are slightly uncomfortable. I've been researching on the web and have come across an ectopic pregnancy that I read about and one of its symptoms are pain in the lower abdomen, usually on one side. It says that it can be life threatening, so I'm not taking any chances. I made an appt. for this Monday. Usually, when I am ovulating and I get this pain, it usually doesn't last more than 2 days. Well, this pain has been persistent going on the 4th day now, and it's starting to worry me. So, I will keep you posted and let you know the outcome on Monday.

Thanks a lot for your replies!

Oh yeah, ectopic pregnancy is definitely a life threatening situation if not taken care of immediately. Its typically in the belly button region on one side or the other and consistently worsens in pain, and it doesn't always show on a pregnancy test. Another thought, have you thought about appendicitis? One of my childhood friends had appendicitis when we were kids.she was at her dads house in Washington, and he thought she just had the flu. She went home to her moms in Colorado after one week on being in the pain, and that night was in the hospital with a burst appendix. She was lucky to live, and had to have two emergency surgerys to recover all the poisons that leaked into her system. My sister also had it about a year ago, and she just felt really sick and not much pain, so... Just a thought to consider.good luck and keep us posted. Hopefully its nothing

No, I didn't even consider appendicitis. It's now around 10pm and the pain has subsided a little bit... if it doesn't get any worse, I'm just going to stick to my appt that I've made for Monday. Thanks so much for your concern and opinions...

Take care!
