Not too long ago there was a night when I had more horrific nightmares than I can recount. One of these included myself and my Mom and Dad cleaning our basement. Suddenly, I somehow knew someone was after us to kill us. After that, I remember looking at the door open to the outside, and there was a small cardboard box sitting in the doorway. I knew instantly that it was my younger brother inside, chopped to pieces, that the murderer had gotten him. That night I had a number of dreams that also included me being brutally murdered and helpless to do anything. The next day (not in a dream), I was driving home at night in a snowstorm. I almost had a panic attack because I was sure there was someone hiding in the trunk of my SUV, waiting until there were no houses so he could kill me. I'm not on any medication, and just thinking of this dream brings me to near tears because it terrifies me so much. I'm not under any abnormal stress, and I've never had such awful dreams before. I'm not sure I even want to know what these dreams mean - my younger brother is in Iraq - but I just want them to stop. I don't really worry about my brother either, he's in a position that is relatively low-risk. I haven't been able to sleep at night because I don't want these dreams to come back... please, please help me.

When I was going through a bad phase of dreams, I went for counseling but with a minister so not knowing your beliefs, I can only share my experience. You are welcome to ask more questions if you wish either on this public forum or on Private Messaging.
I have placed my faith and trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savoir. (Thus provided even a little more confusion as to why things would be in my dreams.) I was instructed to read one chapter of the Bible (I like the King James Version but some like the amplified or Living Bible), at bedtime, doesn't matter what chapter... I love Ephesians and Philippians, and Corinthians, Galatians, etc. anyway, after reading the Bible chapter and asking God in Jesus Name to cleanse my subconscious mind, go on to sleep. I was told that I might have some lulus of some dreams but within three weeks I would be dream free.
There was no great magic in what the minister said to do. I believe he instructed me as he felt he was led to do and I choose to give it a try, believing, as I felt led to do and it did work.
I was dream free in two weeks. We get bombarded by so much trauma, stress, real or imagined on movies, TV, newspapers, magazines, even in music. Our minds don't stop processing just because we go to sleep so it processes all this, sometimes in bits and pieces, sometimes story lines.
For me, having a brother in Iraq would be enough to trigger some dreams. Praying protection on others before I go to sleep, helps me also.
Others will have suggestions soon I am sure. I understand how devastating what you are experiencing can be. Please don't feel you are alone in this experience you share.
Take precautions as we would at anytime to be safe. I believe we are to do what is within our power to help ourselves but then one must make a leap of faith beyond what you can see or do. You will find resolve. Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
I wish your sweet sleep, safety and peace in your life each day for you and your family and friends.

Your dream sounds like you may be going through some hopeless, repressed, victimized,
Decapitation
Loss of identity, effectiveness, potential, or life.
Discovering a disembodied head could mean that you see that person as no longer effective in the way you perceived them before; meaning that, if you used to consider them a threat, then you no longer consider them a threat; and if you used to consider them helpful, you no long consider them helpful in the same way, etc.
Be careful what you watch on TV. Think of positive things as jrebel said.
