Hi everyone:

My sony LCD monitor has display only for one second on powering on, or I can see the screen for one second when the monitor is re-connected to the computer, otherwise it is just black screen. The monitor is manufactured in November 2003. Really don't know what is the problem and if I take it to the shop to repair, does it cost much?

Thank you all for reading this question and hope someone can give me a tip on what I should do.

Can you try another monitor on this computer?

Are the connections OK? (Both ends)Try moving them while the monitor is connected to the computer, see what happens.

Have a look at the monitor manual. Try to find out if there is a certain refresh rate and resolution that the monitor must use. I have had a similar problem when moving a TFT monitor from one computer to another, it turned out that I had to reduce the refresh rate for the image to appear.

If you can try the monitor on another computer, that would also help (if you haven't already!)

If you find the correct settings for the monitor and it still doesn't work you should check the warranty, a lot come with three years. Otherwise take to a local repair shop and ask for the price. I wouldn't recommend opening the unit yourself.

Good Luck

You said you tried another monitor, did you try the Sony on another PC? Did it work there?

Hi, Patrick,
This suggest may or may not help, but might be worth a try.

Steps to stop monitor from turning off:
Set time off on monitor to "never" or a preferred time.

Again, this might not help at all, and I apologize in advance if you have already tried these suggestions. I do wish you the best of luck.

If it's a new monitor and you are trying it for the first time, and it won't work take it back. I had the same problem when I brought my lcd TV monitor and the person didn't tell me that the resoultion of the TV WILL NOT WORK with the PC I brought(which was upgrade from a monitor) when I took it back a different guy told me that they are not compatible with each other. These things are plug and play so they should work without all the politics unlesss they are not suited to each other
