I obtained a credit card before I was married I believe that I added my husband (at that time my boyfriend) as an additional card holder not a co-signer. It is now showing as a judgement on his credit report. I spoke to the attorneys office a paralegal she stated that they can not make any offers to me they will not settle for no less than the balance and they have an interest rate of 5.5%. They are not willing to work with me at all. We had some credit problems that we are now trying to repair everyone is working with us but them. I can not afford the full balance. They said this will appear on his credit for 20 years if we do not pay. Please advise

File a motion with the court that issued the judgement to vacate the judgement on the grounds of improper service. I'm assuming that if you just found this on his credit report, then you were not served notice of the suit in the first place. Unless they can prove you were served, the judgement will be vacated and they will have to refile. At that point you can ask for verification of the debt. If he didn't sign for it, then they can't get a judgement against him.

In the meantime, start a savings (escrow) account for this debt, alone; deposit into it what you can afford to pay until you have enough to handle a lump sum or pay in full.
