Hi,
I came in US on 01/01/2008.

I am a single and when I compiled my W4 I signed 2 like allowances.

My employer replied to me , that because I am a Visa Holder I can claim only 0 or 1 like allowance.

So for the first 6 months will be zero and then 1.

They said to me that there is a new law and the Visa Holder can not compiled the W4 form.

Can you say me which is this law?

Can I compile a allowance equal to 2?

Thanks

Lak

There IS a law that requires foreign nationals on H and L visaholders to OVER-withhold on their taxes.

This is done to ensure that said visaholders will in fact pay their taxes before departing the country. It is up to them to file a tax return to get the refund due.
