I have a MOEN single handle tub/shower faucet model 82000/2300. No matter how tight I try to get the set screw for the handle, within a couple of weeks it starts to loosen. I have had this problem since it was installed about 6 yrs ago. Is there anything I can do to keep it from working loose so soon? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Try the manufacturer, to see if it's warranty covered.

If it's a large screw, you might try some teflon tape.

If not, Loctite 222. Harley-Davidson: Loctite® Threadlocker® / Loctite 222 MS Thread Lock and Sealant - Purple, Silicone Sealers Threadlockers, 99811-97 (http://www.latus-harley-davidson.com/Loctite-Threadlocker-Loctite-222-MS-Thread-Lock-and-Sealant-Purple.htm)

Don't use any other number, otherwise you might end up using a torch to remove it. This is a low strength threadlocker. This is the preferred method.

Make sure that it will go in far enough to grip cartridge shaft. Should probably be able to screw it all the way through. Does screw feel right as you turn it? Maybe someone lost origanal and replace with wrong one. Are you sure you have correct handle maybe someone switched on you. Contact Moem. You will probably get new handle.

Yes, the handle is tight, but loosens after a few uses. I am the original owner, so nothing has been changed or switched since installation. Thanks for the suggestions. I will contact Moen.

Footnote: Look around the hold that the set screw is in, bet you find a crack between the hole and the edge of the handle.

We have the same problem with our 82000/2300 faucet.

In my situation - even when you tighten the set screw - the handle is still loose.

I don't believe that loctite will work.

If you take the faucet handle off you will see that there is a large hole that the set screw goes in.

I believe that this hole has become enlarged and allows the handle to seem loose.

If your handle is initially tight and then loosens up after a period, then the loctite should help your situation.

I have called moen reguesting a part number so I can get a replacement part.

I will let you know what happens.

Yes - I called moen earlier today and they are shipping me the parts that I think I will need to fix the "loose handle" problem on our faucet - I am not being charged for the parts or for shipping.

You can call then again in 60 years and the parts will still be free. I love Moen faucets. People get the parts free but don't know how to install them, my specialty steps in and everyone is happy.

Hello everyone -

Just a follow-up to the "loose handle" situation.

Moen sent me a box of parts - 95606

It included a new handle, hub and set screw -- the items had been re-designed.

It went on w/o a problem, we'll see how eveything works.

I only wish we had bought all moen fixture when we built our house!

There are certain types of lock washers you can buy and slide on the screw for the faucet. That will eliminate the problem of the faucet coming loose

In reference to your "lock washers" post - I don't think this particular problem could be solved with a lock washer - moen redesigned the hub, set screw and handle because the hole in the hub would enlarge and prevent a secure connection.
