I'd like to know who wrote "Superstar" (1969-1973?) I can't find that much on this song. I know Bette Midler sang it in the '70s, but I don't think she wrote it. My husband and I are arguing about it... he thinks Ruben Studdard was the first to sing this song, and I KNOW he is wrong. ;)
I've also heard that the Carpenters sang Superstar... but I keep hearing "Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby" over and over in my head and I know it's a man. (not Ruben though)

Thanks in advance! :D

Here's the lyrics:

Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show.
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear, but you're not really here.
It's just the radio.

Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you, I really do.

Loneliness is such a sad affair, and I can hardly wait to be with you again.
What to say, to make you come again?
Come back to me again, and play your sad guitar.

Looks like it might be Joe Cocker.

I laughed at the Ruben comment. He obviously wasn't the first to sing ANY song.

Thanks for the link NeedKarma!

I laughed at the Ruben comment. He obviously wasn't the first to sing ANY song. I think he may have thought it was THE song that the Idol winner sings, specifically written for the winner. I knew it wasn't because I remember hearing the song years and years ago. My husband is a dork at times though! ;)

Leon Russell co-wrote "Superstar" with Bonnie Bramlett. Who is Reuben Stoddard?

Who is Reuben Stoddard? One of those American Idol contestants. He's already been forgotten.
