Do you mean in terms of paying child support? In Indiana, the age is 21.
What Constitutes Emancipation To Release A Parent From A Child Support Obligation (http://www.deltabravo.net/custody/emancipate1.php)

In general terms of emanicipation in Indiana - emancipation cases are accepted on individual basis, however, very seldom does the court grant early emancipation rights to a minor.

Now the legal age of majority is 18, which is true in many states.

Since this person you are talking about is in college, he/she must be over 18 already. So he/she is an adult by the legal definition.

You can read through Indiana law:
Indiana Code 31-34-20 (http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title31/ar34/ch20.html)

You can become emancipated at any age after 16 as long as you have a job, enough money to talk care of yourself, and a place to live. There is no law in Indiana about not being or being able to be emancipated.
