I can't get my 1990 Honda civic LX to turn over. I don't have any error codes.
I smell gas out of my exhaust when I try and start and I have spark as I checked each plug. From research on this site it seems that I hae wrongly set timing with these conditions. Don't know much about timing... Can I do it myself? Is this the only problem I may have?

If you have Spark it is probably turning over, you mean it won't run?
If you didn't mess with the distributor or cam chain/belt. Timing should be OK.
What work did you do?

I mean it won't run... The last repair that I had done was replace the rotor in the distributor. Are you thinking that messing around with the distributor will cause a problem with my timing?

Usually changing the rotor usually won't be that far off. It is keyed at a precise location.
Try old one again, check length and distances between the 2 rotors. Pull Distributo cap off, check rotor correct, then install Cap exactly. Good Luck

Hmm... well I don't have the old one. Basically I want to have a good idea so I can go to the shop with an idea of what it might be so I don't get ripped off. Any other tests you could give me that I could try?

I would try a blast of starting fluid through intake to determine if fuel IS the problem, I know you smell at exhaust, cylinders are where it is important. Probably have compression, that leaves fuel and spark at the right time. If starting fluid donesn't help it is probaby ignition relater, was Cap visually checked out. Slight posibility wrong rotor?

OK... tried the starting fluid in the intake and it didn't do anything. All I did was spray it in there and go over and start it. I don't know if you need to crank it at the same time you are spraying? I had the car working for about a month with that rotor so I don't think it's the wrong one. The Cap is in good shape.
One note is that when the car stopped working first thing I did was open the distrutor cap and cranked it so that I could see that the rotor was spinning. Would this mess up my timing?
Do you think it's the ignition relater and is that something I could do myself?
Thanks for your tiime!

I think it is ignition related, You would need to do voltage test, and some resistance test,
There is a Guy on this site called TexasgreaseMonkey, and has a lot of useful info on the Hondas, I will take a quick look for his info, back in a minute.
