Who is primarily responsible for this happening?
And then who also contributes to it happening?
As the saying goes, "If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
How can we, as the world fix this? It is fixable.
This is not to pull at anyone's heart strings - I want to know why is this happening and how can we the most intelligent creatures on this planet... fix this. I include myself in the "we".

It is fixable, you are right. Here most of us sit in comfort and we worry about getting through that light before it turns red or we debate where to have lunch today or hem and haw over which shoes to buy. We have the luxury of going to the meat market and picking out what we want. We nit pick over meaningless things.
Then we turn on the news and see the real world.
You ask who is responsible? Is our own apathy to the suffering of others? How many have known about the starvations and genocide occurring in Africa and turn their head away? Too often no one worries until it is their oxen getting gored.

Shy - you are so right. The crap I and I guess we fret about. And look at these beautiful children.
Yes, I think we do have a role in it and I really want to know how to fix it, how do we stop it.
There is zero reason for it to be going on.
Why is it that muscians have to bring this matter to our attention and try do something and not our World leaders?
How can we get this to be important to them and sincerely try and do something.
There is NO way this should be going on.

Musicians bring it to people's attention cause they want attention themselves.
I don't really agree with these charities, in a lot of these charities very little is used to buy food, and that's another problem... they (mostly) buy food rather than building farms in areas with a lot of starvation. So basically they never give them the infrastructure to be self sufficient.
Apart from all this there is the rampant fraud and waste of money on big salaries.

Lo - That's exacty what my husband says. When we give money, he said it probably will never reach them.
But I think then we can't stop there! So how do we get the Hillarys, Barack and McCain,
To inlcude this as an issue that they will work on with the world to rid of this NOW.
I looked on Hillary's site, Barracks too, on my way to look at McCains, to see if there is a place where you can email them to make this an issue.
There has to be a way. I know some may think I'm naïve... but who cares about me... look at these children!

Everyone is responsible for starving and hunger... it is our fault we contrubute to it, by ignoring it and allowing people to exploit children, and allowing them to take the food that we try to give to the poor to themselves.
I think there are solutions but nothing that's permament.
Have you ever read The Lottery (or I can't remember the name but it's by LeGuin and it's about how a child has to live in a closet because if they don't then the whole world will be horrible). Try reading them they're really short and you can find them online.
Anyway, the world as happy as it is always has to have someone that is unhappy, otherwise everyone would be unhappy. Look at the US and England and other countries like ours, in order to keep our demands someone has to do the jobs that we won't such as make the clothing or the toys just to keep us happy.
It's really awful I agree, but I don't think there will ever be a long term solution. If Darphur becomes powerful then some other country will have to take it's place doing the work that they did. So it might be better for Darfur, but not for someone else.
I agree with there being a huge problem with the charities. I can't see the food being given to them personally, but I do see the leaders of these so called charities making expensive commercials, and owning extravagant items. That and the government in these countries where these children are, are so corrupt they take the money and food for themselves.
It's all despicable!

Who is responsible? Man that's a lengthy discussion. We can do something, even if it's helping one child - and I put no faith any government to solve the problem. We give billions that ends up being squandered by the powers that be instead of going to the people in need. But here are two of my favorites, World Vision (http://www.worldvision.org/), which spends 86 percent of their funding on programs (http://www.worldvision.org/worldvision/comms2.nsf/stable/ar_financials?Open&lid=20032&lpos=lft_txt_arfinancials). That is phenomenal stewardship. Another is show HOPE (http://www.showhope.org/), helping families cover the expense of adopting orphans around the world.
Every little bit helps, and it not only helps the children but gives you a sense of purpose. :)

I love you I love you I love you!! Thank you so much for the World Vision site. I am so excited. Thank you speech!!
One of these days, I promise you, I will be where those children are, and holding one of them in my arms, until then, there are ways that now I can help and we can help.
Thank you speech sooooooo much!! I have never seen such beautiful children :)

When I was in college I had a biology professor who, as a graduate student at Rutgers, did volunteer work for one of the world food banks. He went to Africa to monitor the food delivery and who got it, etc. He said he really wanted to see what happened. Now in this tanker, and there were five tankers, there was food, clothing, medicine, household supplies, lumber, anything one could need or want.
Do you know who was there to greet the tankers? The government officials who quarantined the tankers and would not release any item. Do you want to know who else was there? Purchasing agents from the Soviet Union and China. All of the supplies were sold and NONE of them got to the people, in whose name and need, were supposed to get them.

If you really want to know why the world is in the shape it is in. I don't think most Americans really want to know though. Not the real truth. Not when the Corporate Media truth is so much easier to swallow.

Sad to say, it is impossible for us to help so many of these suffering people because of their own governments. We can't change that. We have neither the resources nor the stomach for it.

It seems like there would be a way to do something. I do give to the christain children's fund, but only for my own conscience. Water towers, food. Apartment buildings , jobs , schools and medical facilities are what they need. It seems they would have had enough money by now to do that.we can take food to them all of the time and what is that doing for them tomorrow.they need a civilization for themselves.
