I'm 6 months behind on my citi card.I owe $4700 .I got a call from person at citi claiming to be in their legal dept. The man said that I need to pay $300 before or on the 29th,to keep citi from taking me to small claims court.

He then went on to say that if I didn't make the payment by the 29th, the lawyers in the legal dept would pull my credit reports and look at all of my assests that I have.Is this guy for real?Or is he just strong arming me to pay.Any help would be greatly apprciated.

They cannot do anything unless they take you to court. The guy is using scare tactics

They can pull your credit reports, but they do not give any information about your assets, only your debts!

Also, I don't think $4,700 is a legitimate small claims amount. In my County, $2,700 is the limit.

Next time the guy calls, tell him that you are recording the conversation. If he says OK, ask him if he has any knowledge of the FDCPA? If you get that far, I'll bet he hangs up.
If not, then let him know that making threats is a violation that could cost his company $10,000 per violation. Then he will probably hang up.

Seriously, you should try to work out a payment plan if you can, if they do take you to court, it won't help your situation much.

Good Luck.
