I was injured in a car accident about 6 months ago. I started by going to the ER room and then to a chiropractor. My symptoms did not go away so I went to an orthopedic doctor and found I have a bulging disc in my neck. I was given a tens machine and can periodically go to the doctor for medicine. I manage the pain with the tens machine but eventually I know it will probably get worse.

How do I settle my current medical bills and make a claim to take care of my future problems. The insurance company paid for the repair of my car, now I have my medical bills to settle.

Thank you.

Hello gina:

If you're a very good negotiator, and you know how much to ask for, call 'em up and start talking. You should be aware that the insurance company has very good negotiators on staff who do this every day.

If you'd rather someone else be the bad guy, hire a lawyer.

What State? Keep in mind that every penny the insurance company gives you they don't get to keep so they are going to try to settle low and fast (before the true extent is known).

I'm surprised the hospitals/doctors/medical supply people haven't pushed you to take legal action.

Whose fault was the accident?

And remember if your personal health insurance has been paying some of these bills, tens machines are not cheap, they have to be repaid once you get a settlement.

But you are going to have to guess at how much medical bills you are going to have in the future, I am not sure this is not a good case for an attorney to look at, with written opinion from doctor on what you will need in the future

I'm involved in the same situation - with the tens machine and everything. I went to the chiro, the MRI's, the orthopedic doctor, etc.

I chose to go the attorney route. They have actually been wonderful. Since I'm going through an attorney, my bills are on lien and will be taken out of the final settlement.

I'd advise you to consider checking out an attorney near you.

My insurance company paid for the car, but I still hurt!

Good luck, hon.
