Hi, everyone

I am a Chinese ph.d student now, and will finish my ph.d degree in June and then go to the U.S. for a postdoc job. If I apply for a H-1B visa to come to the state of CA, what kinds of taxes do I need to pay? Can some taxes be exempt?

Thanks.

You will pay taxes just like a U.S. citizen.

State and federal income taxes, plus Social Security at 6.2% and Medicare at 1.45%.
