I just finished filing a 2007 income tax return for my husband and myself. My husband was in his 2nd year of college during 2007, and we were able to take advantage of the Hope Credit.

I looked through my husband's 2006 tax return (we were not married in 2006), and he did not claim the Hope Credit in 2006. Is it too late to file an amendment? How long after you file a return can you make an amendment? (obviously, this has been about a year)

I'm sure this is a lost cause, but thought it was worth looking into.

Thanks!!

Sara

TurboTax says: You can file an amended return within 3 years of your original filing date or within 2 years of the date on which you paid the tax on your return, whichever is later.

If you are amending a tax return for 2006, you have until 15 April 2010 to amend and claim any refund due.
