My dog gave birth last night to eight beautiful puppies. We noticed the mother had fleas this morning and found a few on some puppies. We have never had a problem with fleas or any other parasite. We had guests over last week and they brought their dog to visit. They admitted their dog might have a flea problem today. Is there anything we can do to help or protect the mother and pups from getting flea infested. Hate to see them suffer.
Thanks

Dawn dish liqid is supposed to work, but call the vet and ask if it is safe for a puppy that old?

I would talk to a vet but at the animal shelter we used frontline on the mother dog and that got rid of most of the fleas. You shouldn't use frontline on the puppies for up to 8 weeks, although sometimes we were instructed to dose the pups if the case was bad enough. You don't need a prescription for frontline, call the vet and ask their opinion. The call is free. Well.. mostly. Depending on your telephone provider.

I have tried to trace the suggestion of Dawn back to an authoritative source. I doubt it has ever been tested, and I have seen reports of bad reactions. I would talk to your vet.
