Is it the computer running slow or the internet running slow? Sorry to ask, some get the two confused

If it's the system itself that's slow, then you probably have a virus or spyware. You said you did everything you know so that probably means you did a virus scan, if you did which scanner did you use? I would use Norton Antivirus since it usually detects all of the risks, but I have come across viruses and spyware that have not been detected by Norton.

Norton is horrible. It's almost a virus in itself.
Go here (http://www.techemperor.com/2008/01/29/my-pc-is-slow-and-i-keep-getting-popups/) follow the instructions.
Then go here (http://www.computerscience101.ca/speed_up_my_computer_shtml.shtml) and follow the instructions.
If your system is still slow after that then double your RAM to 1gb.

I do recommend AVG, but every antivirus can't protect you against all malware. I have authored malware that have gotten past Norton (it was on my computer, I did not break any law). But even AVG has a weakness, last night my cousin in Florida caught a virus on her computer. AVG had detected it but could not take care of it. Luckily I had put a trojan on her computer last time I saw her just in case something ever went wrong. I had to send a new one since the virus had already destroyed my previous one but I was able to isolate it and take care of it. I'm not saying that AVG is bad, I'm just saying there is still a chance of getting a virus even with good antivirus.

There is a difference between Malware and a Virus. The behave differently and are detected differently.
I combo AVG and SuperAntiSpyware and find that it's about 99.999% effective.

I know that, I have authored both. I have a job where I have to try and hack someone's system to make sure it's secure. What I'm saying is that I have made both viruses and malware that have gotten past a lot of popular antiviruses.
