Check this out but read the 'last resort' warning: WinSock XP Fix download and review - fix XP internet connectivity from SnapFiles (http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/WinSock_XP_Fix/winsockxpfix.html)
Also make sure that your "Wireless Zero Configuration" service is not disabled.

Hello Ralph,

Sorry that didn't work. Now, if you are willing to provide some additional information, I'll do my best to help you. If so, please describe your wireless setup (in detail) and also tell us about anything that might of happened around the same time that your wireless service stopped working (and anything else you can think of).

Hi,
Ok, I disabled media sensing in the registry, and now my media is shown on ipconfig, but my IP address and subnet mask are all zero's, and my default gateway is blank. The connection was lost when the laptop was disconnected from power with the battery out, I don't know if there is a wireless switch on the computer, can't seem to find one. The computer is an acer aspire... router-modem combo is an westell 327w on bell south.
Thank's... Ralph
