Hey,

I am an F-1 student from India studying in Syracuse, NY.
I did my CPT for 6 months in Philadelphia, PA.
My employer has charged me SS and Medicare tax.
From this forum I learnt ways to claim it back ( Ask employer for a refund or fill Form 843)

But my other doubt is about the state taxes.
My university is in NY and employer is in PA.
Which forms do I need to fill?
Will I be paying taxes in both states?

For the year 2007, the income earned in NY would be around $2800.
And that earned in PA would be around $25000.

Please advise.

Since you are a student, by law you are a NON-resident of NY state. Hence, NY state has NO CLAIM to tax the income earned while in PA.

Since you earned income in both states, you must file tax returns for both states as a NON-resident, paying taxes ONLY on the income earned in each respective state.
