We have a garden tub that we would like to add a shower to. Does anyone know an inexpensive way to do this? I saw a similar question asked in 2005 but it wasn't answered on the board. I don't know how to add a picture on here... but the spout and hot/cold water handles are on the top of the tub.

Thank you!

You will have to open up the wall behind the valve and see if there's a 1/2" plug on top of the valve body. If there is you can remove it and using a 1/2" male adapter run a line uo to a drop eared ell,(see image). Once you back the ell with a piece of wood between the studs you can then patch the wall/tile and, after Teflon taping the threads, install the chrome shower are and shower head. If there's no plug on top of the valve body you can either change out the shower valve or install a removable hand held shower on the spout. Good luck tom

How about a tub spout with a hand held shower head. If you put a shower head on the wall you are going to have to have shower enclosure or you will have a wet floor. You can probably find a deck mounted version of this.

I like Harolds idea much better then mine. A lot less hassle and not as much $ involved. Way ta go, Harold! Speedball

Did you know that you can actually buy outdoor showers, special for outdoors? It wouldn't be ON the actual tub, but by the side. Try Steam Shower | Steam Cabin | Sauna Rooms by Di Vapor UK (http://www.divapor.com) or Viteo Shower White | Outdoor shower Viteo - Danny Venlet | Shop for design furniture and decoration with Made in Design (http://www.madeindesign.co.uk/prod-Viteo-Shower-Viteo-refshower.html) or Steam Showers & Sauna Steam rooms by Belgravia Bathrooms (http://www.belgraviabathrooms.co.uk). Or on the other hand you could just have a handy garden hose handy ;) Although that wouldn't work too well below freezing!
