My 9 month old lab Tiko has had really bad gas for the last 2 weeks. When I say bad I mean really disgusting. We can here him letting them rip. We find it amusing but we also no it needs to stop. We have figured out it has to with the peanut butter we put in his kong. Can you suggest something other than peanut butter that we can spread in his kong to keep him busy. We use cheese but find he can lick it up within minutes. We also use his toothpaste but once in a while but don't want to use it all the time. TIA

Good detective work. First idea is to try freezing the cheese. I don't know if you could find a harder cheese that would pack right or not. I will keep trying to think of something. Most common people food is Ok for dogs, but in addition to the well know chocolate and onions, recently it was discovered some dogs are very sensitive to raisins and grapes.
Much of anything except a good dog chow can unbalance a do's diet.

Hi labman, any ideas of what I can use besides peanut butter that would keep my dog busy? I was thinking of processed cheese but don't think that would be a very healthy option.

As long as it isn't too much, the process cheese should be OK.
Maybe use a smaller Kong and not fill it as full.
Have you tried the kibble balls? I haven't had good luck with them, but each dog is different.

Although it might be the dogs diet, there is not much that can be done. I would try giving your dog “doggie gas pills”. I don't know what they are called exactly, but you can find it online or go to your local pet supply pace like Petsmart. I don't know if the meds will help, but it might be worth a try.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the info; however since we stopped the peanut butter we haven't had any issues with his smell.
