I just bought a five and a half old beagle. Didn't know he wasn't supposed to be weaned yet. What do you recommend I feed him. I tried crushing some puppy NUTRO kibble and adding some water to it. I then gave him some water. He ate some of the kibble I crushed but didn't take to the water very well. Please help.

Did you say he is 5 and a half WEEKS old? If that is the case, you might need to get him some store bought milk for dogs. Try some wet food also. Some dogs prefer dried food that says "natural" on it. I think it's because it smells better. You might need to try a different food until you find one he likes. Natural Balance is really tasty

Yes, it was definitely too early to be taken away from the mother. While weaning does start at this time, puppies need to learn many many social things from their mother. You are going to have to take particular care in getting this puppy well socialized with surroundings, people, children, food, toys, noises etc. You don't want to end up with a problem down the road with a poorly socialized dog.

As far as the food you could try just puppy food soaked in warm water. That should work and the puppy should take to it rather easy. Just keep water available at all times. It may seem he is not taking the water, but he may just not be thirsty because the food is wet.
