I have a 2 year old self propelled Troy Built 6.50 hp Briggs & Stratton lawn mower. It will only start if I spray starter fluid in the carburetor, and only for about a second. The primer pump doesn't seem to pump as much fuel as it use to. My son and I changed the spark plug, added fresh oil and a new air filter. We even changed out the fuel. My next step is the shop:( Any Ideas?

You obviously have a fuel problem. Has the mower been sitting with gas in the tank for any length of time, like two or three months. Is there any kind of fuel shut off valve between the tank and the carberater? Have you taken the fuel line off the tank to see if fuel comes out? Have you taken the fuel line off the carburator to see if any fuel comes out. Is there a fuel filter?

Hk, if all that is OK, we'll go from there. Great start for them.

Thanks for the help my friends. My son figured out what the problem was. For some reason the gas line was bent upwards. The fuel wasn't getting to the carburetor.
