My maytag washer is making a terrible nonstop noise during all phases of the wash except when filling. The washer is almost 3 years old, it is a top load washer, model # MSAV4655EWW-WW. Anybody have the same problem or know how to fix it.

Is it squeeky or clanky?
Squeeky could be a belt off track
Clanky could be the drum of balance.

If it is all phases of the cycle except filling you likely have a bad transmission. Not an easy fix for a DIY project unless you have removed and opened a trans before, have you?

I have not taken apart a transmission before and it is not a squeek or a clank it is just nonstop noise. But I did realize that when there are no clothes in the machine it does not make the noise, so it should be fun to have a repairman come to fix it when it doesn't make the noise for him. Typical machines.

Turns out my Wife had left a bobby-pin in her clothes and had worked its way into the pump. It was acting like a bseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. I removed it and it is working fine again. Thanks for the help.

You lucked out, think of what we almost considered doing. Good luck.
