Ok, I am having several issues here, My big question is that if a male dog has heartworms is it safe to breed him? I want everyone reading this to know though that I am not the breeder or a breeder.
I bought my pup from a breeder in Michigan who seemed to me to check out fairly well, they only had a few litters, they had papers from AKC stating that they had inspected the animals and the condition of the dogs and everything was good, they have spay/neuter contracts, health guarantees, and a policy that they will take back the puppy if anything is wrong or a person wants/needs to give it up.
So I drive 30 hours to get him because there was no good time to fly him as it was over 100 degrees for several weeks here, I arrive and am not let in the house (not illegal I know but odd considering I was getting a puppy from them and I had traveled so far, she knew I was coming before I took off and a 1/2 hour or so before I arrived) I was only able to deal with 2 children under 18, I tried to follow so that I could see the rest of the litter and some of the other dogs (my hubby was worried but secretly hoping I would bring 2 home lol) However I was told to stay where I was, I got my puppy, they brought out the mom and dad separately and that was it. It raised some flags but I have a Beautiful Malamute/Husky mix with the best temperament ever, and no health issues.
He is now 1 1/2 years old, I have kept up on there site to see what is going on and I find some serious issues I think, his mom has now been bred 2 more times since he was born (one litter was 6 months later) they have around 10 to 14 litters posted everymonth as well as another 10+ that are going to be born soon. This has been going on since January of 2007, they state that the proceeds will go to purchase a new home, which they just did just before I bought my pup. I contacted an Animal Control shelter where they used to live because I wasn't sure where to contact, they couldn't help because they are now out of the county but she let me know that when they did live there (2005) that they had dealt with them then and recommended I contact their current county. Also on their site it shows that they just obtained a male from another breeder, bred him right away and posted on the site that this dog has heartworms and may die, that the other breeder was neglectful and named that breeder. I feel very stupid at this moment but I love my baby to death and he is great. I hope that I can put a stop to what they are doing before it gets any more out of hand. More than anything I hope I am overreacting but I don't think I am.

I'm not sure if it's safe or not, I can only assume that it is not, but it is definitely unethical and they are abusing those animals. You should certain contact your local ASPCA and tell them about this, maybe they can help.

You might try contacting the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and see if they could recommend someone in that area who could be of help.
Also contact the AKC and tell them what you know about the situation. They can reprimand, fine, or suspend breeders who have kept records poorly or are convicted of animal cruelty. The AKC field rep may have been misled about how many dogs these people have--some may be kept at another site.
(By the way, although heartworms cannot be transmitted from parents to offspring directly, if they are saying the dog "may die", he is certainly in no condition to be bred! It hints that they don't pay much attention to other health issues either!)
I hope you can help shut this puppy mill down!

Update, so far they are of course still running, I will try the AKC and HSUS. There is another "father" on the site that is 9 1/2 months old, apparently that dog was sick at 7 months with something that caused its ears to go down, and he is now a breeder male.
I am also having troubles because my happy healthy dog, who isn't even 2 yet was diagnosed with serious arthritis this week. I am not happy. Looks like dysplasia but I guess we won't know till after he is 2. His femur balls are flat instead of round, it looks as though it has been a problem for awhile but he just started letting us know last weekend. I have contacted the breeders about it but the only thing they do is offer another dog of "equal value". I would take another dog, but not an exchange, I would take all the dogs I coud from them if I had the space and it would shut them down. I have yet to really hear from them, they said they would get back to me in a few days.

Ugh, that makes me sick. I hope you get them shut down and their poor dogs taken away where they can get decent care and stop the cycle of abuse.
