We have Dishnetwork and a DVR Our problem is that we can't get our DVD player and VCR players to work. They turn on but I can't get anything to show up on the screen My DVD player is a Phillips model #953AT21, Our VCR is Daewoo. Can anyone tell how to hook them up so we can watch movies that we have on DVD and Video? Thanks

Good afternoon.

Please, either append a snapshot of the back of the TV, DVD, VCR (or is it a combo) Dish receiver. Its easier to see your actual connections then guess at what you have.

Normally, I make the following suggestions:

Dish satellite to "In" to the Dish on Dish Receiver. Depending on the connection points design on the output side, I connect the "Out" line to my "IN" DVD or DVD-VCR combo unit to the "IN" of the DVD or DVD/VCR combo and the "OUT" of the DVD/VCR or DVD to the "IN" of the TV.

I'll have a better answer as soon as I either get a chance to see the owners manuals.

I really need to get the Manufacturer and model numbers for your TV (is it a High Def TV?) and the Daewoo's model number.

Also critical, is the number of input your TV has. It is do-able, particularly if you have an AVR. Then we could tie all the peripheral equipment to the inputs of the AVR. Also, what are you using for your Sound Processor. The TV? If so, unless it is a Dolby Processor then you should not be getting any of the 5.1 advantages.

Oka y my TV is a Symphonic 27" WF2703 stereo sound. The Daewoo is unreadable sorry.

Donj,, you can Google that model number and find the owner's manual ONLINE.
There are many ways too hook these systems together, I would just calll DirecTV and ask them how to do it. They help people all of the time with this problem.

I completely agree, and just to pile a little more on your information, I really don't understand why the DTV installer didn't help install the entire package.

My first call would have been to DTV to throw sand in the soup about leaving a customer with a non working system.

As to Google, I regularly use their services, or ask my wife. Either are always correct. :)

I'm taking a shot in the dark here, but your VCR should have "IN and Out " ports. We know the DVD does not. Any chance the DTV, receiver allows for two inputs?

There are several way that spring into my twardy mind.

One is a mechanical switch that allows 2 inputs. (1) Input from DTV, (2) input from VCR, with the DVD connected to the Input of the VCR and use the toggle of the VCR to allow the DVD to playback. You will not be able to record anything with this method.


Go to Walmart or similar store and get an "AVR" that has multiple inputs. I bought a Sony one there almost to years ago and it's never had a ripple of problems. That way you can use the remote to toggle through all inputs and select which one to watch. I believe I got it for about $200 on sale. That's the cleanest way.


You could also go to Radio Shack and pick up a three way input switch, one out to the TV.

I'll take a look at the TV if I can find it. Most of the stuff I find on the web only deals with High Def.

I was wondering the same thing. Usually these guys will hook everything up and make sure it all works before leaving the site. As you know, many of these "installers" are sub contractors that get paid for each install they do so time is money so they don't go out of their way to do much than what they are apid for. But if the installer showed up in a true DirecTV truck, that person would be a "company man">

This can be done. It will look cheesy, but it is do-able.

Run the Direct TV from the out of the Direct TV Receiver to the in of the VCR. The Out of the VCR is connector to the Rear TV Input.

The DVD, connect from the "Out" to the IN on the Front panel of the TV.

Basically this is an older TV which limits you to 2 input sources. One off the front Panel and the other off the rear panel.

Please give this a try and let me know how it works. :)

Regardless of the truck or the uniform, the installer is representing DirectV and is held to their standards.

For all we know, he/she may not have known how to knot everything together. Personally he/she should have called for help before bailing out. However, if the installer didn't know, then that's their answer. He/She did not know how to tie the old stuff together.

Okay guys first off it'
Was dishnetwork and i asked them to come and hook up our sat to the new tv so that's basically what he did. Nothing more or less. I tried calling them and asking if they could help me over the phone to hook the dvd and vcr but they said they don't do that and neither does their service guys. They just hook up the dish and go. The same kind of thing happened to my mom. They had to come back twice just to get things all hooked properly luckly she had the insurance on it that she didn't have to pay for the visit. i'll try the method below and let you know thanks darma
